now that i’m moved, i’ve decided to try pulling down over-the-air HD. here’s what i think i need:
- antenna: easy. guy at work has an extra he’s gonna give me for $20. win.
- hd tuner (tv didn’t come with one): the google overlords showed me this: HDHomerun it has two tuners but the output is…a network jack. so now i’ll output it to a computer instead of the tv and…wait, what? ok, so i guess i have to record the tv and then play it? this sounds like a DVR/Tivo. oh, cool!
- so i guess i need some storage: i’ll toss in a 1.5TB drive (these are freaking cheap now…less than $100!)
- and then i need something to play the shows on the teevee: MythTV or SageTV
i have no real idea what i’m doing, but i know it won’t be real easy but will hopefully be fun. minor details (things like a remote control and cabling) to figure out later.
